Our father had an extraordinary drive and ability for showing God’s love and grace to others. The mystery behind this might be found in the experiences of his youth and young adulthood: witnessing the depression years in America as a preacher’s kid, taking a trip to Europe with a Jewish friend on the eve of World War II, and later surviving Iwo Jima while suffering the loss of close friends. Returning to western Pennsylvania after the war, he started a church and his family. Justice and freedom issues were always in the forefront of his leadership focus. “He was a person who knew where he stood and stood there.” (Page 223)
He has touched so many lives, and we miss him dearly.
