Blackie was not popular with the other cows. She just didn’t fit in. But Blackie and her human friend, Jean turned out to be a perfect match. The Life and Travels of Blackie the Cow is a real life story about a friendship that turned a pretty mixed-breed cow into a Pennsylvania Turnpike commuter who travelled back and forth between her farm home near Somerset and her town home in Butler.
Author, Jean Rugg’s family roots in farming go back to 1775 and the Western Pennsylvania parcel of land that was given to her ancestors for fighting in the Revolutionary War. Her desire to share her poignant memories and often hilarious stories about her pet cow, Blackie are combined with her interest in making readers aware of the need to preserve the family farm.
Jean Rugg is donating all proceeds from the sale of this book to the Penn State Rural Leadership Program (RULE) and to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Kansas City , Missouri.
