Non-fiction is a vast and popular genre. The non-fiction best-sellers’ list often reads like a Who’s Who of successful authors: Dr. Wayne Dyer, Martha Stewart, Julia Child, Jon Krakaur, Bill Bryson, Deepak Chopra, Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey to name a few. It encompasses all that is written about actual events and real people—it includes memoir, biography, self-help, diet books, how-to books, military, history, cook books, legal advice—anything that is true and real. It can be a real life mystery, love story, even a comedy. Sometimes there is a thin line between fiction and non-fiction; sometimes non-fiction can be told in a story form like a novel, as in Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, which the author labeled a “non-fiction novel.”
