Sue Kauffman always knew she wanted to pursue a career in communications. She has been writing and designing since she was a little girl, creating books for family gifts. She was a staff writer on her school newspaper, and while working for a nonprofit, she developed the organization’s first brochures, newsletter, and website.

Sue completed a desktop publishing program at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and continued her education at Carlow University, where she completed a B.A. in Professional Writing, minoring in Communications. While working full-time as a communications coordinator for a large nonprofit, she began working out of her home at night as a freelance editor and designer. She realized how much she loved the diversity of her freelance work, so she turned her nighttime job into a full-time career.

She has more than 20 years’ experience working in nonfiction, specifically health and medicine, science, academics, humanities, and social sciences. Her background in both writing and design has provided her with the opportunity to work in the various stages of production from writing to editing to designing the layout of the final product.

Sue is able to adapt to a variety of subject matters and has an excellent eye for detail. Her experience as both an editor and designer has given her the ability not only to pay attention to the spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure of a publication but also to provide authors with advice on the content and format structure and the style of the finished product.

In her free time, Sue keeps her creative juices flowing through painting, doodling, and renovating her house. She lives in Pittsburgh, PA, with her husband, two children, and dog.
